This book looks back at historical financial events and how they affected the global economy. Sprinkled with personal stories about clients, coworkers and managers, this book is a very smooth and entertaining read that hooked me from beginning to end.
I found this book to be really enjoyable and informative, even though I have been in the financial services business for many years. As conversational as it is, it’s some of his laugh-out-loud stories and self-depreciating humour that make it a real treat.
“Confessions of an Old Stockbroker” is a must read! A wildly entertaining authentic composition teeming with insightful investing passages and laugh-out-loud anecdotes. I read the book cover to cover in one sitting!
I just finished Kent Chauvin’s Confessions of an Old Stockbroker and must admit that I enjoyed it thoroughly. This books contains information and anecdotes which will give both financial neophytes and people ‘in the industry’ some long hard-earned lessons delivered in a light humoristic tone. I would recommend this book to anyone wanting to read about the sometimes mysterious and always meandering world of finance, especially during these current politically-challenging times.
Everyone who has invested money over the last 40 years should read it. And younger people interested in the market should read it. Kent’s humour and wisdom shines throughout. I loved the client stories.
Kent has done a great job with this book. The huge amount of history and market information he has encapsulated, is presented in such an easy going personal style with some great self deprecating humour.
If you’re entertained by the high-finance stories in Wolf of Wall Street or The Big Short, you will surely love the humble wisdom and clever stories captured in the book. Thank you for entertaining us, Kent! You’re a wonderful storyteller.
You should have titled the book “Confessions of a Wise Stockbroker” or “Confessions of an Educated Stockbroker”. The book is well written from the perspective that you take a very complex investing world and distill it into some well thought out investing principles. Plus, the added Chauvin humour makes it a very enjoyable read. It is amazing to me how few investors and advisors follow some of your guidelines.
The author of this book is a veteran stockbroker who spent 48 years managing his clients’ investments. The book passes on his years of experience but not in a pretentious way. Although the topics include in-depth statistics and charts, this book is a fun read, weaving personal stories of success and failure about clients, co-workers and other money managers in the industry. It’s filled with witty quotes like “economists have predicted nine of the past six recessions”, that make you laugh out loud. His mantra seems to be to keep things simple and avoid the noise. Having survived eight major financial crashes in his career, this book imparts a lot of wisdom. Combining insights with humour makes this book a very enjoyable read.
